Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of The View, has revealed a parent’s worst nightmare: her newborn son, Justin Jr., had to undergo major surgery and spend time in the intensive care unit. The TV star opened up about the terrifying health scare during Monday’s release of the show’s podcast, Behind the Table, but chose to keep details of the procedure private, saying it was too emotional for her to discuss.
“My son needed a major operation. I’m not going to get into the details because I’ll just turn into a puddle talking about it,” Griffin, 36, shared with executive producer Brian Teta.
Griffin, who welcomed her first child, Justin Griffin Jr., in February, described the agonizing weekend spent in the ICU as the most difficult experience of her life. “I felt incapacitated,” she confessed. “Last week, I was just going through the motions, praying, knowing that he had this procedure ahead of him.”
The former White House communications director admitted she kept the news to herself, confiding only in Teta and not telling her co-hosts on The View. Watching her helpless baby endure such a terrifying ordeal and entrusting him to medical professionals took all the strength she had.
Despite the immense worry, Griffin was later told by the doctor that her son was “doing even better than expected” and hitting all of his milestones. “Thank the Lord, it went beyond well,” she said with relief. “He’s going to be great. He’ll never know in his life, other than us telling him, that he had to go through this.”
