Wheel of Fortune is preparing to roll out a noticeable new look this summer — but not every longtime viewer appears ready to celebrate the change.

The iconic game show is set to introduce a major patriotic-themed update to its set next month after teaming up with one of America’s most recognizable brands.
For two weeks this summer, the long-running syndicated series will mark America’s 250th birthday with special USA-themed episodes in partnership with Coca-Cola.

The episodes, titled “Drink In America Presented By Coca-Cola,” will air nationally across two non-consecutive weeks, beginning the week of June 1. Additional themed elements are also expected to appear during the week of June 29.
The special programming is designed to invite viewers to “drink in” the sights, spirit and stories of America through the familiar lens of one of television’s most beloved game shows.

But while producers are clearly hoping the event will feel festive, nostalgic and patriotic, the announcement has already stirred a mixed response online — with some fans complaining that the show is starting to feel increasingly dominated by sponsorships.
The special episodes will include custom Coca-Cola integrations throughout the program. One of the biggest additions will be a branded wheel wedge offering contestants the chance to win “iconic trips to beloved American cities,” according to Wheel of Fortune producer Sony Pictures Television.
Among the prizes are getaways to Los Angeles for Independence Day celebrations, New York City for an exclusive Times Square ball drop experience, and Atlanta — the hometown of host Ryan Seacrest and the home of Coca-Cola’s headquarters.
Contestants will also have the opportunity to win a Jeep during a bonus round, sponsored by America250.
Viewers at home will not be left out of the festivities either. Fans watching from their living rooms will be able to enter the “Drink In America Giveaway” for a chance to win a trip to one of America’s more than 60 National Parks, or to Universal Studios in Florida.
Suzanne Prete, president of Sony Pictures Television game shows, described the collaboration as a fitting way to honor the upcoming national milestone.
“Wheel of Fortune has long been a staple of American viewing, and collaborating with Coca-Cola, one of the most globally recognizable brands, feels like a natural way to celebrate America250,” she said in a statement.
She added that both brands have held a special place in American culture for generations, creating moments of joy, connection and shared memory.
“Both brands have been part of the cultural fabric for generations, creating shared moments of joy and connection, and we’re honored to bring that spirit to life in a way that celebrates what makes this country so special,” she continued.
Coca-Cola trademark category vice president Stacy Jackson also praised the partnership, saying the two brands share a deep cultural connection.
“Few brands are as deeply woven into American culture as Coca-Cola and Wheel of Fortune,” Jackson said.
She added that Coca-Cola is proud to serve as a signature partner of America250 and to use the collaboration with Wheel of Fortune to celebrate the country’s stories, places and spirit.
“As a signature partner of America250, we’re proud to celebrate this once in a generation moment by teaming up with Wheel of Fortune to invite fans across the country to drink in the stories, places, and spirit that make America special,” she said.
“This collaboration is a celebration of that shared legacy — bringing America250 to life through pop culture, iconic destinations, and moments worth savoring together.”
The current version of Wheel of Fortune is hosted by Ryan Seacrest, who took over the role following Pat Sajak’s retirement from the syndicated edition. He appears alongside longtime letter-turner Vanna White, whose presence has remained one of the show’s most recognizable constants.
However, despite the celebratory tone of the announcement, fan reaction has not been entirely glowing.
On Reddit, several viewers reacted to the special edition episodes — and many made it clear they were not thrilled by yet another sponsor-heavy week on the decades-old show.
“Ok. I’m kinda sick of having a different sponsor every week at this point, but whatever, it’s the way it is now, I guess,” one person wrote.
Another viewer suggested that sponsorships may simply be part of what allows the show to remain financially strong while still offering major prizes.
“Yup, it’s the only way to keep the show profitable while allowing them to give away big prizes,” the person commented.
A third fan pointed out that the Coca-Cola collaboration appears similar to other sponsored weeks the show has run in the past.
“Coca-Cola sponsored week with a home viewer giveaway, basically like every other sponsored week,” the viewer wrote.
They also claimed that the special event is not truly two new weeks of episodes, but rather one new week that will later rerun around the Fourth of July.
“And it’s not actually two weeks. It’s one new week that will rerun the week leading up to Fourth of July, just four weeks after it first airs,” the fan added.
Another unimpressed viewer gave a blunt reaction, writing: “Ugh, sounds like one big commercial!”
The mixed response comes shortly after Wheel of Fortune wrapped its “Big Money Week” on Friday. During that event, one fortunate winner received former Tonight Show host Jay Leno’s 2026 Chevrolet Corvette C8, valued at around $70,000.
The show has long been known for its bright set, familiar puzzle board and life-changing prizes, but recent themed weeks and sponsor integrations have become an increasingly noticeable part of the viewing experience.
For some fans, the Coca-Cola and America250 collaboration is a fun, patriotic celebration tied to a major national milestone. For others, it appears to be another sign that even one of television’s most classic game shows is leaning more heavily into branded entertainment.
Either way, the upcoming episodes are likely to get people talking.
With special trips, patriotic set changes, Coca-Cola branding, a Jeep bonus prize and the chance for home viewers to win major getaways, Wheel of Fortune is clearly preparing for one of its biggest themed events of the summer.
But whether fans see it as a celebration of American culture — or simply another commercial wrapped inside a beloved game show — remains the real puzzle.
