Stephen Colbert knows how to make his lady swoon.

While taking his now famous “Colbert Questionert” during the penultimate episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, he answered a slew of questions from celebrity guests and close companions alike.

One of said companions was Stephen’s wife, Evelyn “Evie” McGee Colbert, who sat at her husband’s on-stage desk and asked him, “What is your favorite smell, darling?”

“Oh, ok. Well, that’s a good one for you. Oh, you’re not going to like the answer,” he told Evie, who countered, “Ohhh, what’s her name?”

Stephen went on to share that his favorite smell is when he and Evie are going out somewhere and she goes upstairs to get ready first “because you take a little longer to get ready.”

He continued, “And then I come up to follow you and when I get to, like, the top of the stairs, I know that you’ve already gotten out of the shower because I can smell that — what’s that rose lotion you use?”

Evie noted that she uses kai*rose body lotion before Stephen turned up the heat: “And I know that you are in there wearing very little.”

Evie let out a big laugh and covered her red face as Stephen chuckled and the audience hooted and woo’ed.

This is not the first time Stephen has complimented his captivating wife. When Evie appeared on a holiday episode of The Late Show in December, Stephen couldn’t get over her “plum leather” ensemble.

“Don’t you think I look like a baddie in a Marvel movie?” she asked him, before he noted she should lose the tweed jacket she was wearing over the leather. “That’s the disguise,” she added. “You don’t think I’m a baddie and then I take it off and I’m like, ‘Stop right there!’”

The pair, both 62, went on to drink spiked eggnog and read through holiday cards over cookies.

Evie and their three kids, Madeline, Peter, and John, have been a support for Stephen as The Late Show prematurely wraps up after 33 years on the air (11 with Stephen as host; 22 with previous host David Letterman.) CBS announced the franchise’s cancellation in July, calling it “purely a financial decision.”

As for what he hopes to do following the show’s end, Stephen said he will be celebrating his son John’s college graduation and brother Tommy’s wedding amid the farewell. “I’m glad a lot of the week is not about me. It’s about the people I love more,” he told PEOPLE.

“We’ll get drunk and sing on the dance floor,” he added of his family. “It will be great.”

The final episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs Thursday.
