even Venture near the river would face mysterious and terrible consequences the natives of um muazu lived in awe and fear of the river always keeping their distance Bella often found herself lingering near the surface especially at night when the world above was calm and the stars shimmered like scattered pearls across the sky her voice was ethereal and she often Sang To The Moon letting her Melodies drift across the water one moonlit night as she floated on the water’s surface singing softly Bella heard voices startled she quickly

peaked when they finally left she found herself yearning to know more about them the next night they returned this time there were more of them all wearing similar clothes bright and strange garments that Bella had never seen before they laughed splashed and even sang songs that were different from anything Bella had ever heard they look so happy Bella mused not like trouble at all her Fascination grew with each visit she observed how they interacted their Carefree nature captivating her unlike the somber atmosphere of um muazu where

rules and tradition dictated every aspect of life these humans seemed to live freely one night after the humans had left Bella swam to the surface and gazed at the path they had taken I must know who they are and where they come come from she decided but how can I follow them without revealing myself her mother the mermaid queen had always warned her about the dangers of mingling with humans they are unpredictable the queen had said and their world is not safe for us but Bella’s curiosity was a tide that could not be stopped the next

evening she went to the ancient Grotto where the mermaid witches resided I need a potion Bella said to the oldest witch a wise and wrinkled mermaid named Lily Lily’s Eyes gleamed with curiosity what kind of potion child a potion that will give me legs Bella whispered so I can walk among the humans Lily’s expression grew grave do you know the risk you’re taking if even a single drop of water touches your feet you will transform back into your true form I understand Bella said resolutely but I must see their world with a sigh Lily

concocted a shimmering potion in an oyster shell drink this at the shore and remember stay away from water at all costs Bella thanked her and swam to the river bank with trembling hands she drank the potion a searing pain shot through her body as her tail split and transformed into two slender legs gasping she crawled onto the dry sand and marveled at her new form I’m human she whispered in awe Gathering her courage Bella followed the path the humans had taken her legs wobbled at first but she quickly learned to to walk

she kept a safe distance as she trailed them to a large compound filled with More Humans most of them wore similar uniforms and moved in synchronized patterns the place buzzed with activity laughter and the hum of music and she quickly learned that the place was called NYSC camp and the people were called youth corpers Bella’s heart raced with excitement so this is their world she whispered she observed their routines from a distance marveling at their way of life they marched in groups spoke in strange but fascinating words

and engaged in games that made them laugh one day as Bella hid behind a tree she overheard two corpers talking did you hear about the river one of them asked yeah the other replied they say it’s haunted but I think that’s just a myth we’ve been swimming there for days and nothing’s happened Bella smiled to herself haunted they say she mused If Only They Knew days turned into weeks and Bella’s visits became r she learned their language by listening carefully and even mimicked their greetings in Whispers her longing to

was too perfect too strong and she didn’t look like someone who had spent years in rigorous training among the men Jon was the most frustrated a competitive Sportsman and known for his pride he found it hard to accept being bested by a woman let alone someone who seemed so delicate and fragile he had been on top of his game for years and was used to winning every competition but Bella’s Victory stung like a reminder of something he couldn’t quite place after another defeat in a tug of war contest where Bella had practically

but it was drowned out by their cries she tried to crawl away her tail thrashing behind her but the men surrounded her closing in from all sides she’s a witch one man shouted LIF liting a cutless above his head we need to end this evil now Bella scrambled to escape but the pain from her transformation left her weak her body unable to move fast enough she could feel the heat of the fire in their eyes the rage in their hearts her body was trembling her tail caught halfway between the world of humans and the world of the river the

terror in her eyes as his words lingered in the air I I think we should let her go Jon said his voice horse let us take her back to her home where she belongs and let her live in peace never to interfere with human Affairs anymore his voice was quieter now tinged with regret but there was sincerity in his words the group still shaken but slowly coming to grips with the truth nodded in agreement the mob’s anger and fear dissolved replaced with a mix of guilt and disbelief at how far things had gone one by one the men dropped their weapons the

threat of violence slipping away JN still kneeling beside Bella gently scooped her into his arms she winced slightly from the pain of the transformation but she didn’t resist him her tail once vibrant and full of life now looked frail and drained as it draped along the ground he could feel her body shaking with the strain of being so exposed so vulnerable she was no longer The Confident mermaid she had been when she entered the camp but instead a creature who had been almost attacked her life threatened by the very

people she had come to trust let’s go John murmured his voice barely audible his mind still swirling with conflicting emotions he didn’t know how he could ever make up for what he had done but he knew this was the only right thing left to do Felicia standing beside him reached out to gently touch Bella’s arm offering comfort as she whispered it’s okay Bella we’ll take you home the small group now United in this mission to write the wrongs of the day began to move toward the river the others followed at a respectful distance their

steps hesitant but Resolute they walked in Silence the weight of the moment pressing down on each of them they could see Bella’s strength her resilience even in her weakened State she wasn’t a monster she was someone who had just wanted to be seen to be accepted like anyone else as they reached the riverbank Jon gently lowered Bella to the soft ground by the water the river which had once been her Sanctuary now seemed to be her only Refuge from the cruelty of the world she had tried so hard to belong to her eyes though filled
