Kelly Ripa Says She Has No Lip Fillers — And Shares the Lip Liner Trick She Swears By
Kelly Ripa, the 53-year-old co-host of Live With Kelly and Mark, has clapped back at fans who speculated she had gotten lip fillers. In a new Instagram video, Ripa demonstrated her lip makeup routine, explaining how she creates her signature plump lip look without any cosmetic injections.
Filming herself applying lip liner, Kelly joked about the natural changes in her lips: “Although I do enjoy the shape of my lips, like all women my age, my upper lip seems to be sucked down into Middle Earth.” She then traced her upper lip with a brown Chanel crayon, enhancing the appearance of fullness, while leaving her bottom lip untouched.
Ripa admitted that her routine is heavily filtered for social media, but emphasized that she had never received lip fillers. “No, I didn’t get lip fillers. This is the lip trick you monsters,” she captioned the post. Fans were impressed by her honesty and creativity, though some commented on the use of filters.
She further explained on Instagram how she learned the technique from other users: “The girls on Instagram do it, they paint their entire upper lip brown. I don’t have that level of makeup artistry, I just don’t have it. What I’ve been doing is taking a brown eyeliner and I trace on the outside of my lip line and then fill it in, and then I take a regular lip liner and trace outside of that. It’s like a double layer. So, I’m basically manufacturing a lip line.”
Her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, praised her work saying, “It’s beautiful, it’s beautiful. It really looks beautiful.” Ripa noted humorously that the effect disappears when she removes makeup: “What’s sad though is when I take my makeup off and I watch it go away, it is very, it’s alarming.”
Earlier this week, Ripa also addressed her gray hair, explaining that despite recently coloring it, she could still see roots: “We sprayed the roots this morning. So I don’t know what to do at this point. Do I just become full Mrs. Claus, or what am I doing?”
